Chocolate Chip Walnut Skillet Cookie

We are spoiled with dining options in our neighborhood.

That’s one of the joys of city living that makes sacrificing space worth it.

I love having so many options of things to do just right outside.

Food choices of all cuisines, ethnicities and styles bombard us as we open our front door.

They include two barbecue spots that are favorites of my husband and son.

Deciding between them can be tough, but it’s actually dessert that influences our pick.

We don’t always have room to finish off the meal with something sweet, but when we do, there is one thing that we love to order.

It’s a warm chocolate chip cookie baked in a mini cast iron skillet.

Cookies straight from the oven are impossible to resist.

This one is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream perfectly sized for the table.

How can you resist that!?

Make The Dough In Advance

Skillet cookies are great at home, too. I love serving a chocolate chip walnut skillet cookie to a group of friends or family after dinner.

Most of the time my entertaining is pretty casual, so a big cookie to share makes sense.

You can make the dough in advance and just pop the skillet in the oven when you’re nearing the end of dinner.

It’s so much easier than portioning out dough onto sheet pans and rotating them in and out of the oven.

How To Make A Chocolate Chip Walnut Skillet Cookie

To prepare the chocolate chip walnut skillet cookie dough, I combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. They include flour, baking soda and sea salt.

Then with an electric mixer I beat the butter and sugars together until they are light and fluffy.  After that, I mix in the eggs and vanilla extract.

Next the dry ingredients go into the wet ingredients.

Finally, I fold in bittersweet and milk chocolate chips and walnuts.

The cookie finishes baking in about 18-20 minutes.

When that oversized, fresh-baked cookie is brought to the table, there are always plenty of oohs. Everyone’s excited to dig into a slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
