Unsalted Butter

Granulated Sugar

Almond Extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Beat the butter and sugar together using an electric mixer. It will take 3-4 minutes for the mixture to become pale and fluffy.

Separate 3 of the eggs. Then beat the yolks and almond extract into the creamed butter and sugar.

Grind the whole almonds in a food processor until they are a flour-like consistency.

Pulse the granulated sugar, lemon zest and 3 eggs into the ground almonds.

In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites. When they are foamy, add the remaining sugar and beat until the whites hold soft peaks.

Stir the nut mixture into the creamed butter and sugar.

Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.

Pour the batter into a greased springform pan with the bottom lined in parchment paper. Sprinkle the sliced almonds on top.

Bake the cake until golden brown, about 30 minutes. Wait 10 minutes before removing it from the pan. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
